Comparison of Net NPA Ratios and Asset Quality of Selected Public and Private Sector Banks
MANKANWALJEET SINGH 1
DR. SANJAY SHARMA2
Non-performing assets of scheduled commercial banks (specifically those of public and private sector banks) in India have become a major problem affecting their profitability, net-worth and liquidity and posing a direct threat to their quality of assets. As per RBI regulations banking institutions have to make mandatory provisions, reducing their overall profits and shareholders’ value. The Net NPA ratios of the selected public-sector banks under study increased sharply from 2016 onwards, with the steepest rise being that of SBI Group followed by PNB and IDBI Bank. The Net NPA ratios of the selected private sector banks show a much lesser comparative increase, with respect to Public Sector Banks. However, within the private sector banks, ICICI Bank has seen a very steep rise in the Net NPA ratio, which is owing to the increased provisions made by the bank post directions from the RBI and identification of new slippages in the assets i.e. more stressed assets being classified as NPAs in the fiscal 2015-16 and 2016-17. The sudden spurt in the Net NPA ratios of the selected bank may not be generalized to the entire population of the scheduled commercial banks in India, but, is broadly indicative of a deep rooted problem of regulatory mechanism of thee banks, the RBI and the Government, which has over the past decade or so, facilitated the creation and growth of non-standard assets which are now being hastily declared as loss assets by the banks, after the revelation of very large value frauds / scams in the last quarter of the previous fiscal. This research project is an attempt to study as the trend of Net NPA Ratios of selected banks, their Asset Quality and suggest suitable measures to improve the quality of assets and overall financial health of the banks.

Impact of GST on Indian Automobile Industry: A Pre GST and Post GST Comparison
NAVLEEN KAUR 1
The Automobile Industry in India is a vast business producing large number of passenger vehicles, two wheelers, three wheelers and commercial vehicles annually fueled mostly by the huge population of the country. This industry has a vast potential to grow and contribute to the economic development of the country. The Indian Government has also recognized the importance of this industry and is currently working on the Automotive Mission Plan 2016-26 to set the target for the industry for the year 2026. The main aim of this plan is to propel Indian Automotive Industry to be an engine of the Make in India programme and a significant contributor to the Skill India programme. Under the current tax system several taxes are applicable on this industry viz. excise, VAT, sales tax, road tax, motor vehicles tax, registration duty which will be subsumed by GST. GST is one indirect tax for the country, which will convert India into a unified common market. It is a single tax on the goods and service as they are supplied from the manufacturer to the consumer. Though it is very early to provide an in-depth analysis of cost per product post GST implementation, as some ambiguity is still there due to incentives/exemptions provided by different states to the manufacturers/dealers for manufacturing automobiles, this paper attempts to study the impact of GST on Indian Automobile Industry. The study found that bigger cars and SUV segment will be benefitted by implementation of GST while hybrid vehicles will cost more after the introduction of GST.

AJIT SHRIVASTAVA1, SHIVAM RAI 2
The present article proposes an algorithm of a computerized adaptive test based on the theory of the response to the item, developed to estimate the degree of usability of e-commerce sites. Five algorithms based on the criterion of the maximum information were developed and tested via simulation. The algorithm with the best performance was applied to the actual data of one hundred fifty electronic commerce sites. The results showed that the algorithm developed can obtain a good estimate for the degree of usability of e-commerce sites with the application of 13 items.
