ABSTRACT

Since the introduction of Open Sky Policy in 1992, Indian aviation sector has been attaining the stupendous growth despite having high cost of capital. The incessant growing work load, stringent work procedures and regulations, rigid work schedules and many other factors create complex work environment for aircrew members. The present study is an attempt to determine the stress level of aircrew members and analyze the various organizational factors in relation to their stress symptoms to know the major contributing factors to the stress variance. For this purpose, Quartile range was used to categorize the level of stress, Correlation coefficient to find the association between organizational stress factors and stress symptoms, and Step-wise multiple regression to find the potential organizational factors causing significant stress. The study shows medium level of stress among majority of aircrew members, significant positive association between eight organizational factors and stress symptoms out of total ten, and the model with four organizational factors to be the best fit which contributed maximum stress variance.

Keywords: Occupational stress, Organizational stress factors, Stress symptoms, level of stress, aircrew members.

TITLE

Causality Between Health Expenditure, Health Status and Economic Growth: An Empirical Investigation in India

AUTHOR

Dr. AVINASH KAUR1

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to examine the causal effects of health expenditure and health status on economic growth of India for the period from 1981-82 to 2015-16. The results are carried out by using Vector Autoregressive (VAR) Model, impulse response functions and forecast error decomposition. The results revealed that government health expenditure has negative and insignificanteffect on economic growth in India during the study period. However, the result of Infant Mortality Rate was found to be mixed. The coefficient of one year lagged value of Infant Mortality Rate is positive and significant in determining the changes in economic growth; whereas the coefficient of two year lagged value of Infant Mortality Rate is negative and insignificant at the 1 percent level. The results of impulse response function and variance decomposition revealed that government health expenditure has minimal effects on economic growth of India, while infant mortality rate predominantly effects variations in economic growth. Thus, it is need of the hour that sufficient expenditure on health care expenditure should be maintained and to ensure sustained economic growth.

Keywords: Health Expenditure, Economic Growth, VAR, Infant Mortality Rate, India.
